Toy Story 5 Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Digital Device
It has been 30 years after the first Toy Story film debuted, launching the animation giant as a leading film company and bringing audiences to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a brief look into the plot but leaving fans wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a brand new toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer avoids is what the sheriff is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a carnival and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.
Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the insignia attached to her shirt.
Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
